Sikkim Tour and Trek: 12 days

Sikkim is the 22nd state of India that came into existence with effect from 26th April, 1975. Sikkim state being a part of inner mountain ranges of Himalayas, is hilly having varied elevation ranging fromBhutan Tour 300 to 8540 meters. But the habitable areas are only up to the altitude of 2100 mtrs. Constituting only 20% of the total area of the state. Sikkim has been divided into four districts and each district has further been bifurcated into two sub-divisions for administrative purpose.

The highest portion of Sikkim lies in its north west direction. A large number of mountains having altitudes of about seven thousand meters stands here with - Kanchenjunga (8598 m.), The third highest peak in the world. The high serrated, snow capped spurs and peaks of Kanchenjunga look attractive consisting of Kumbha Karna (7711 m.), Pendem (6706 m.), Narsingh (5825 m.), Kabru Dome (6545 m.), etc. A number of glaciers descends from eastern slopes of Kanchenjunga into Sikkim where snow clad line is found above 5300 mtrs. The biggest of them is Zemu, from whose snout above Lachen monastery rises the river Teesta.


ITINERARY
 

Day 01: Drive or fly from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur and drive to Gangtok Check in at hotel Gangtok. Leisure overnight.

Day 02: Today enjoy an Sikkimese breakfast and transfer for the city tour. Visit the world famous Rumtek Monastery. Then in the evening briefing for the tour to Lachen.

Day 03: After breakfast departure for Lachen Village, via Phodong, enroute Kabi and other Sikkimese Villages. The Lunch for the day will be served on the way. Reach Lachen after 6 hours drive. Overnight halt at Lachen. In Lachen only the basic facilities are available here. There is no electricity. It will be a Village stay, but the nature vistas compensate all those facilities.

Day 04: Acclimatization hike at Lachen to Lamo-ang-dang and back to Lachen. Lamo-ang-dang is the New trekking route in North Sikkim and it is opening by 2007 it was a great pleasure for Company that this new trek route was reeked by our Director Operation Mr. D. Lachenpa with the Government officials of Tourism Department.

Day 05: Today Hike from Lachen to Zema Chu. (Chu means River) Zema is at an altitude of 2728m and is 6 KM from Lachen. Overnight in Tents at Zema.

Day 06: Today After breakfast the trek starts from Zema to Tallem altitude (3468m). 5-6 hours walk along the Zemu River towards west. The going in this section is usually slow as the path travels through water logged Rhododendron thickets and fallen tree trunks. Lunch at Tallem and in the afternoon free for excursion in the area. Overnight at Camp.

Day 07: Tallem to Jakthang (3176m) 4-5 hours walk. Trek from Tallem to Jakthang. This route is a walk in the paradise passing through at least twenty different kinds of Rhododendron varying in colours from white to the deepest red and in height from trees of 6m to scrubs of not more than a foot. Lunch at Camp.

Day 08: Jakthang to Yabuk (3978m) 4- 5 hours walk. The path to Yabuk climbs through the forest and after about three hours of steady walking you reach the snout of the Zemu glacier. Lunch at Camp. In the afternoon free for excursion in the area.

Day 09: Yabuk to Rest Camp (4570m) 5 Hours Walk. The path from Yabuk to Rest Camp follows the Zemu Glacier; the path is mainly over boulders. As the trail opens into the valley the great peaks come into view. The Rest Camp is situated just opposite Mt Siniolchu which is one of the most beautiful peak in Sikkim.

Day 10: Rest Camp to Green Lake (5050m) 4-5 Hours walk. The trail from Rest Camp gently climbs up the valley. On a clear day this is one of the most beautiful walks in the Himalaya. Mt Siniolchu, Simvo, Twin Peaks, Nepal Peak and The Khangchendzonga are some of the giants that dominate the horizon. The Camp at Green Lake Plain.

Day 11: Rest Day for sight seeing at Green Lake. Spend the day lazing in the sun watching the panoramic view of the Great Mountains of Sikkim. Climb for about an hour or so to the hill behind the Green Lake one will come to a high point where you will get the grandest view of the Mt Khangchendzonga divide and the distant Mt Chomolhari in Bhutan.

Day 12: Today trek back from Green Lake to Rest camp. Tent at Rest Camp.

Day 13: Today trek back from Rest camp to Jakthang.

Day 14: Today trek back from Jakthang to Tallem.

Day 15: Today trek from Tallem to Zema and drive to Lachen. Over Night at the lodge at lachen.

Day 16: Today after breakfast return to Gangtok. Check in at hotel at Gangtok. Leisure overnight.

Day 17: Today after breakfast drive to Darjeeling. Check in at hotel at Darjeeling. Leisure overnight.

Day 18: Early morning visit Tiger Hill for the world famous sunrise over Mt Khanchendzonga. Then visit Goom Monastery and back to Hotel to enjoy the Darjeeling tea breakfast. After breakfast visit the sightseeing places in Darjeeling. The places are as follows.
1. Himalayan Mountaineering institute.
2. Happy Valley Tea Garden.
3. Tibetan Refugee help center and etc

Day 19: Today after breakfast drive to Bagdogra and fly to Delhi. Check in at hotel at Delhi. Leisure overnight.

Day 20: Today after breakfast transfer Kakarivitta, Nepal, you will then take an overnight drive from Kakarivitta to Kathmandu. (You can drive till Bhadrapur and take a flight from Bhadrapur to Kathmandu)
