The Langtang Valley lies
to the North of
Kathmandu on the borders
of Tibet. It is a
beautiful alpine region
containing some prime
examples of temperate
and sub alpine
vegetation. Langtang is
one of the most
accessible trekking
regions in Nepal but
nevertheless offers a
wilderness experience
without the sometimes
arduous travel involved.
Whilst the area cannot
boast any of the
Himalayan giants, the
scenery is every bit as
spectacular as that
found on the more
popular trails. Because
it is far less
frequented, many people
who travel this region
speak of a real sense of
adventure.
A visit to the Langtang
valley offers an
opportunity to explore
Tamang culture and
villages, climb small
peaks and visit glaciers
at a more comfortable
altitude than other
trekking regions. A day
to rest at Kyangjin
Gompa allows time for
exploration of the
extensive glacier system
in the higher valley and
small peak climbs.
Treks can be varied, by
either a return to the
road head at Dhunche for
the journey back to
Kathmandu or
alternatively extending
a further six days to
trek via the Sacred
Lakes of Gosainkund(4300
meters) and the Helambu
region. Helambu region
lies to the south of the
Langtang region; it is a
lush area to the north
of Kathmandu inhabited
by Sherpa and Tamang
people. The Sherpas of
this region are very
different in their
practices from their
cousins in the Everest
region. The region
contains some beautiful
forests and very
interesting villages.
This area is easily
accessible from
Kathmandu and is ideal
for people with less
time.
 |
As soon as you crawl out
of the Kathmandu valley,
the Langtang classic
trek gives you the first
real introduction to
some of Nepal's highest
peaks. in tandem with
this, this trek will
also introduce you to
some of the most natural
elements ever seen
within the realms of
mother
nature....diversified
beauty at its natural
best.....perhaps found
nowhere else on earth.
This trek will remain
etched in your memories
for a long, long time to
come.
The Langtang Himal is a
region geographically
based in the north part
outside of the Kathmandu
valley and in close
proximity just south of
the Tibetan border. This
gracious, beautiful and
lush green valley is
surrounded by high peaks
of great appeal. It has
become famous ever since
the British mountaineer
Bill Tilman described it
as the most beautiful
valley in the world. The
highest peak in this
area is Shisapangma or
Gosaithan 8027m in
Tibet. The course from
the Langtang valley to
Gosaikund is full of
original and diverse
natural beauty which has
literally attracted
thousands of adventure
enthusiasts from every
corner of the universe.
The Langtang valley is
also known as the
''treasure house'' of
Alpine plants. The whole
valley is divinely
covered with an array of
beautiful flowers during
the summer, a specter
that should never be
missed. This high and
isolated region is
inhabited by Tamangs
whose religious customs,
language and dress are
similar to that of the
Tibetans. |

brings you to this fascinating
village where each house is

the ridge. It's a great place
to wander about, catching

carved wooden windows or
simply relaxing in the sun.

scenic foothills and ridgeline
vistas to Kathmandu. The first
part of your drive up to
Trishuli Bazaar is through
gravel and a bumpy road and

 |
A wonderful trek that
cuts across wild rugged
trails that are pretty
challenging where you
begin to discover the
unknown from the known
on every ridge, every
path that you hike
through and continues to
surprise your senses
with the rare display of
breathtaking nature so
rampantly wild, but yet
serene and so
wonderfully
calming.....stirring
your imagination and
emotions with its rugged
but resplendent beauty.
This is a trek you would
love to venture into
with your loved ones.
The Langtang valley is
aptly called ‘the valley
of glaciers’. Here,
massive mountains rise,
soaring towards the sky.
The valley offers pine
forest, Swift Mountain
streams that gush over
rugged rocks coupled
with snowcapped peaks,
grassy lawns and
comforting green meadows
strewn with daisies and
wild animals. A variety
of sights including
Buddhist monasteries, a
cheese factory, yaks,
glaciers and mountain
lakes make this trek an
exciting one, right to
the bones. On this trek
as you hike on the way
through typical Sherpa
villages, interacting
in-between with the
local friendly folks
where your guide will
interpret for you, and
as you continue on; you
will encounter ancient
monasteries. You will
also learn about ancient
customs and
superstitious beliefs of
how the local folks live
life in our villages.
You follow a rugged
trail with dramatic
views to the west Himal
Chuli (7893m) Manaslu
(8156mm) and Ganesh
Himal (7406m). On a
clear day, even the
Annapurna range can be
seen rising up behind,
and to the north across
the valley is Langtang
Lirung. You pass a few
huts on the high
pastures of Laurebina,
cross a small ridge and
then we get our first
views of the holy lakes.
There are about a dozen
lakes in the Gosainkunda
Basin, the main three
being Saraswatikunda,
Bhairabkunda and
Gosainkunda. According
to legend, Shiva created
Gosainkunda when he
pierced a glacier with
his trident to obtain
water to quench his
thirst after having
swallowed a poison that
threatened to destroy
the world.
This trek brings you to
the Langtang Valley
surrounded by Himalayan
Peaks. Langtang
Lirung-7240m and Ganesh
Himal are the highest in
the region. Trek up to
Kyanjin gompa and do an
excursion to Tshergo Ri
that would acclimatize
you well for a further
rugged hike to Ganja La
pass. The trek then
turns straight south
into the valley of
Helambu via the Ganja La
pass which gets more
exciting and challenging
as well. |
